Oikotimes is reporting that 4 female singers are preparing a bid for Eurovision. Of course it is not known if ERT will accept them:
  • Ivi Adamou
  • Katerine Avgoustakis
  • Antigoni Psihrami
  • Eleni Foureira

All four are VERY strong contenders. There are all strong in their own way.

But that performance is horrid. lol
Is it that hard to pronounce RedOne?
She did the same mistake when i saw her a week ago.

Antigoni Psihrami - Walking on Sunshine (Live on Greek Idol)

I'm rooting for Antigoni. I love her sister.
Maybe they can all go together. Antigoni feat. Irene (and maybe Shaya) lol.

Katerine Avgoustakis - Treat Me Like a Lady/Halo Mash up - Enjoy the day (Live at Greek NF 2009/Second part is playback)

No, thank you.
Eleni Foureira - O Kivotos Tou Noe (Live at Greek NF 2009 with Manos Pirovolakis)

And lol at this hosebag.

Katerina Avgoustaki seems to be the most experienced one, she's beautiful and has got a pleasant voice and stage appearence but I am still yet to see the "wow factor" on her which I saw on Helena already from the very first time.I doubt she's got Helena's package therefore I can only assume that she will never become a truly established artist in Greece.

Eleni Foureira was hot @ the mad awards!!But she needs to stop repeating the same moves over and over again and actually show some personality. She looks like just another Beyonce immitator.

Antigoni Psihrami has got the full package but she lacks the feminine factor that all the others have.

Ivi Adamou is for me the least competitive. Her voice needs to develope and her stage appearence is very amateurish but she's very beautiful and photogenic.

Oikotimes now reports that Tamta is also preparing a bid for ESC! The same article also says that Ivi Adamou has found her song for Eurovision, which will be pop-dance. So it seems 5 female singers are preparing bids as of right now. Oikotimes also says that ERT was/is initially planning a 3 singer National Final, but that may change. (You never know with ERT. Plus they are a mess right now) Who would have thought there would be so much interest for 2011?

There have been many names rumored. According to Oikotimes, ERT is very close to announcing the final list of singers that will be in the national final.
Current rumors:

The so much anticipated official statement by the Greek national broadcaster is expected within this week as the record labels have given and taken back dozens of names throughout the holidays despite there was a provisional deadline (December 17). The current list is not the one with the national finalists but the one that ERT has in their hands and from which the broadcaster will decide the final entrants:

Antigoni Psichrami (EMI), participant in the 2010 Greek Idol, open act in 2010 Greek NF

Panagiotis Petrakis (?), participant in the 2010 Just the 2 of Us by MEGA Channel

Trimitonio (Lyra), X Factor 3 participants

Kokkina Halia (Sony), X Factor 2 participants

Valanto Trifonos (Sony), Greek Idol 2010 winner, 2004 Cyprus NF

Yannis Savidakis (?), 1989 Cyprus entrant, submission is still doubted

Loukas Yorkas, X Factor 1 winner

Theocharis Ioannides (Sony), actor and participant in MEGA's Just the 2 of Us

Some fans, reading the posts in various blogs and on www.oikotimes.com keep saying that the names are not so prestigious if you take in mind that most of the Eurofans might preferred singers like Tamta, Elli Kokkinou, Eleni Foureira, Kostas Martakis, Despina Vandi etc, but there seems that two factors change the entire policy of ERT:

first the fact that the artists mentioned above declined any Eurovision idea for this year and second because ERT - especially in such hard times for Greece - is attempting to make an appeal to the young audience and to present a total refreshing line up for the Eurovision audience in Greece. After all if someone can argue them, he can say that Rybak and Lena were absolutely nothing when they represented their countries and they... both won!

we emphasize that this post is based on oikotimes.com research and the information mentioned above are not confirmed by the Greek national broadcaster (yet).

Nothing has been confirmed by ERT yet.

Re: Greece 2011

Post  AlexP on Tue Jan 11, 2011 10:33 pm

The newest claim, apparently ERT is about to officially announce the line up:

ERT is going to make an official announcement this afternoon for the Greek national selection set for late February. The 2011 Greek national final is going to be modest, this is the principle of the Greek national broadcaster as the country is under a major financial crisis and social shock.

The shocking news today is that ERT denied participation to Yannis Savidakis (Cyprus 1989) as he is not in the style of the Greek national selection this year (this year aims to something fresh and modest). ERT also declined Theocharis Ioannides as a participant as he is not considered a professional singer.

THE LINE UP (TO BE ANNOUNCED)
  • Antigoni Pscihrami
  • Valanto Trifonos
  • Kokkina Halia (Group)
  • Loukas Yorkas
  • Trimitonio (Group)
  • Nikki Ponte

stay tuned for the official announcement

http://www.oikotimes.com/v2/index.php?file=articles&id=9562

Again, nothing is confirmed by ERT yet.

So relating to my previous comment...

It turns out that Sofia Berntson had also applied to ERT to represent Greece this year, but was rejected as well, supposedly just brushed off. The media is all over this now as Sofia was at least a serious candidate as opposed to those actors who are crying now. Everyone has their fingers crossed that she will be reconsidered as well. She was in Melodifestivalen twice in Sweden and one of those times with a Greek song! She has also took part in the Thessaloniki Song Festival and has even released a cd single in Greece which included a duet with Goin' Through. Her main song writer is Greek-Swede Dimitris Stassos. She is just what Greece needs...at least for the final, the public can chose from there.

Drama as usual. ERT put out a press release and said they stand by their decisions. Some of the rejected acts are not saying they are going to sue. Nomisma said they are going to sue to block the NF from happening, and also compensation. (Why are they entitled to any??) Psinakis and Theoharis are also expected to sue, and they are going to send his ESC song to ERT along with the legal papers. Media is saying Korkolis withdrew from his project after the ERT mess, so Theoharis back up ESC song is called "Fun" by Nikos Terzis.

What a mess. I hope nothing comes from these lawsuits, let ERT do their job. Its their choice how the selection works. Its a shame some of the acts were blocked, but what can you do? ERT said from the beginning they wanted a maximum of six acts.

Sorry but I dont agree with ERT's policies. Why won't they let more acts participate? What kind of argument is this which says "we will only let people from talent-shows participate in the Greek national final"? And "we won't allow artists who have previously also worked as actors participate"?
Very poor arguments, if you ask me. Let Savvidakis participate (and the others too) for Christ's sake, he's very experienced and there are certain people who would vote for him! I would really like to hear his song more than e.g. Triimitonio's one!

ERT calls participants to submit a song by February 4th

The Greek national broadcaster closed all scenarios issued yesterday by newspapers like To Vima, To Proto Thema amongst other and various blogs about possible withdrawal explaining that this is not the case anymore.

The national broadcaster calls the participants to submit their entries up to February 4th. Then the broadcaster will examine the songs and if ERT finds a song not suitable to represent Greece this year the artist will have one more chance to submit a song in order to take part in the national final which is rumored for the period between February 25-28.

It was also announced that the 2011 Eurovision project will be headed by Lena Hoida along with the ladies of Eurovision: Fotini Giannoulatos and Evaggelia Piskera.

I think this is a bit too alternative for my liking, taking into consideration Greece's Eurovision past. It could do well, MaNga did well last year.

Βαλάντω Τρύφωνος / The Time is Now
Music: Ramström/ Magnusson/ Vuorinen
Lyrics: Ramström/ Magnusson/ Vuorinen

This is an okay ballad, it sounds more of a winners song, better than "Stin Dipla thesi" (as a winners song). I don't think it would do that well at ESC it's quite boring.

Τριημιτόνιο / Χαμογέλα
Music: Νίκος Τερζής
Lyrics: Βαγγέλης Κωνσταντινίδης

Probably (in my opinion) the best entry, it mixes rock and pop perfectly.

Αντιγόνη Ψυχράμη / Ιt’s All Greek To Me!
Music: Απόστολος Ψυχράμης
Lyrics: Δημήτρης S/ Gerarg James Borg

This is actually rubbish. I'm disappointed Antigoni. It's probably got the most catchy music but the lyrics are utter crap and Antigoni doesn't sound too clever vocally.

Λούκας Γιώρκας Feat. Stereo Mike / Watch My Dance
Music: Γιάννης Χριστοδουλόπουλος
Lyrics: Ελεάνα Βραχάλη

This is way too dark for ESC, when I read it was Giannis & Eleana behind this I got excited but then hearing it has let me down. It's good, don't get me wrong but not for ESC.

Nikki Ponte / I Don’t Wanna Dance
Music: Jonas Saeed - Pia Sjöberg
Lyrics: Jonas Saeed - Pia Sjöberg

This is good in a Kalomira kind of way. Nikki probably has the best "Live" vocals and this song is alright but it's kind of generic.

None of these songs really scream "winner" to me unfortunately but then again, we don't know what everyone else is entering.

Nikki all the way.

Antigoni's is pure crap and so is Louka's. The rest are just ok.

I think it's all gonna be about dance music this year, a few of the songs I have heard so far are all dance based.

She is amazing with slow songs live, but she murdered more than a few upbeat songs on X Factor. Plus this is a very dance song, which will probably require a good deal of choreagraphy to pull off. It is even harder to dance and sing at the same time. We'll see how it will sound at the NF though, I hope she pleasantly surprises me.
