Helena Paparizou is ready for comeback in Sweden - and melodifestivalen

”Dad doesn't want me to cry”

Father Giorgios fast death got her to leave Sweden. After six years the schlager star – Helena Paparizou, 30, stop hide herself. I am not angry anymore, she says.

As usual the Greek compound was celebrating the Christmas day with a big party in their place, In Backa, Gothenburg 2008. But suddenly the chairmen and Helena Paparizous father Georgios Paparizou, 60 collapsed. His heart stopped beating.

It took over 20 minutes before the ambulance came, because the area was a high-risk zone, the ambulance personnel needed to wait for a police escort. When they reached the place it was already to late. Georgios died in Helenas sister Aretis arms.

After three years after the hard loss the Swedish-Greek singer Helena Paparizou back in Sweden, In a hotel suite in central Stockholm.
She tells how she was on a night club scene in the home city Athen, unknowingly that her father died. When she was done on the scene on the morning, 05:00, she meet her brother, neighbor, a good friend and a psychotherapist.

They told that my father got a heart-attack. I got panic, I got some days off and took a airplane to Gothenburg, Helena tells us. When she reached Landvetter she got to know the truth.
I was waiting for my bag, and then my brother told me that my father had died. There I lost everything, my self, everything. I collapsed right down on the floor and began to cry. When she reached her mum Efrosini at home she was meet by relatives and friends in sorrow.

Searched redress
When Helena thinks back on that day she get quiet, and hide her face in her hand. I haven’t cried on a long time when I have though on my dad, but I just got all pictures in front of me. It is over, I have promised myself that one should not cry. Because I am strong, he doesn’t want me to cry.

She dries her tears and continues: What I think most on is mum, she lost her life partner, they was so fun together. Helena assembles herself quickly.
Besides just to try to managing the grief, the family Paparizou searched redress after what happened. They send in a report to Health and Medical Treatment 2009, where they questioned why ambulances need to wait on the police before they get into high-risk zones. And they got rejection.

I worked my ass off
2010 also the familys appeal, got rejected in the administrative law. My family felt so bad. I want all high-risk zones to be abolished. I don’t want it to happen to anyone else. We have got rejected on or reports but I will always blame them, Helena says.

2009 Helena had some plans to do comeback in Sweden, but that she shot to the future. But I didn’t take any break. Instead I worked my ass off in Greece. I couldn’t sit still a second at home. She also began to go in therapy. I didn’t want to comeback to Sweden after this aggression after what I and my family went through with dad. I do not want any family to feel that they lost a person so unnecessary.

Now doesn’t Helena hide from Sweden anymore. – I am not angry anymore, the anger and bitterness I don’t feel anymore. On spring she is current for “Let’s Dance”. Tomorrow night she is on the stage for Melodifestivalen in Globen, in front of millions Swedish watchers, and interprets last year winning song “Popular”. It will be a big show with 23 dancers. Christer Björkman called on the right time. It will be a special experience for me in front of the Swedish people. Last year I cheered for Eric Saade so I though my thumbs would snap and I was very happy that Sweden got on a good place.

Stays and fight
Last time she was on a Swedish scene was around six years ago. Then she recently won Eurovision with “My number one” and made a international career. After that she have made three CDs in Greece.

- Christer björman have tried to get me into the Swedish competition many times. But I will never again compete. The 30 years old singer is living since several years, in the capital of Greece, Athen.

Despite the economic crisis she will not move to Sweden. – I do not care about what politicians say and doesn’t care about what they do in the parliament, they can hit their head in the wall if they want. It is always a pity for the people that need to pay. I love the contry and will stay and fight, she say.

Even the artist branch industry have been hit hard of the crisis. When I moved go Greece I worked five, six times on a week. Now it is two times a week and the payment is halved.

“Comfortable about that I get older”.
Helena jokingly takes her on the flesh on her belly. A half year after my father Giorgios death she got troubles with Struma, with other words enlarged thyroid.
- Damn what I gained weight. I went up ten kilograms on a month. I was constantly tired, had problems with sleeping and a hell of a temper. It is like having PMS 24 hours a day.

Since 2010 Elena have got medicine named Levaxin, and if she is lucky she doesn’t need to get operated. I have two lumps in my throat that maybe need to get away, it is sometimes a little swollen and they are fluid-filled. She haven’t feeled so good like she does today. I love my body and enjoy with being older. I doesn’t care about flesh. I still hear that I should go down in weigh, but I stand.

Dancing in TV this spring
Name: Helena Paparizou
Age: 30
Lives: Athen, Greece
Family: Single
Income: Not known
Present for: Singing Eric Saades "Popular" in melodifestivl-finalen on Saturday, and current for "Let's Dance" this spring.

Three things about Elena.. Helena About:

Melodifestivalen: Some things must be valued good. Being in the schlager each year is like eating pea soup each day. It doesn't taste anything at the end. You should leave some highlights. 2005 will always be one of my best years, I worked night and day.

...Being a super star in Greece: I don't accept many proposals, but this winter I sat in the jury of "Dancing on ice", I do many shows on the big night clubs around the country. On the scene I can be a real diva but when I go down from the stage, I live like everyone else. Then I am Helena.

...about phobias: After my relationship ended I did go to Sweden and began with cognitive therapy. I got stuck in a evil circle, got panic attacks and a lot of phobias like Agoraphobia, Claustrophobia and Acrophobia. For a while I almost couldn't go out and throw away the waste.

I don't like this interview. Too much focus on controversial topics, her sorrow, her health problems (now I realize why her throat looks swollen to me so often), etc. But it's better than nothing. Btw all of you guys please log into your facebook accounts and report the comment by this guy Niclas Gustafsson who called Elena an idiot and like the comment by the guy Johan Weimarsson!

Yes it's incredible how there are such fuc*ing disgraces of the human race like him out there who dare to call "idiots" people who are simply angry over the fact that their relatives could have been rescued if there weren't such "high risk zones" in ghetto areas. I understand that Elena's and her family's frustration should perhaps be directed in the policy makers or politicians (actually Elena asked for abolishment of these zones so she kinda did direct it to them) but for God sake's her dad was dying in her sister's arms and these people didn't give a shit because they had to be escorted by the police! What world do we live in? What if that Asshole (isn't that his first name?) Gustafsson's dad lived in such high risk zone and he had to die waiting for the ambulance? Would he still show all that lack of compassion?

Thank you Swedish!

Thanks a lot for this comment, because i was about to ask what they meant by high risk zones. What you wrote was my first guess but i couldnt imagine i was right. Omg. Never heard of such thing! We also have a lot of immigramts in germany and also areas where many of them live, but such law wold be impossible. There would be a huge discussion about discrimination etc. Does sweden have so many problems with these areas that some people consider such law as necessary? I mean anyone from such area would be crazy to attack the ambulance because one day he might need it himself, so even gien the case anyone hates the country he is living in so much that he wanzs to destroy anything would be crazy to address to the ambulance....!

Well said! I can't imagine anyone would want to attack an ambulance when they might need it themselves one day. Plus even if some people would do that (I bet a very small minority), I find it totally inhumane to leave somebody dying because you have to play by the rules which say you must be escorted by the police in such "dangerous zones". Seriously could these ambulance guys go to sleep peacefully that night? Plus I find it twice as inhumane of someone to turn against the victim of this situation (Elena and her other relatives) and accuse them of having "absurd requirements from the state" when all they asked for was immediate medical care when needed in such sudden and rare circumstances. Makes me sick!

Yes, they have made it high-risk zones because there is a huge risk that the immigrants throw stones, big stones from bridges. And makes it unsafe.
I think that Elena is blaming the wrong people, but I still understand her because if I would be in the same situation I would probably also complain to the ambulance, even if it not firstly them that made the wrong thing.

I don't think she blames the wrong people NOW, maybe they did at first. Now she asks for the abolishment of these "high risk zones" so she is obviously addressing to the politicians/policy makers, not the ambulance drivers.
For me the presence of these "high risk zones" means giving people who live in them less rights to survive a sudden condition that requires medical treatment. Why couldn't Elena's family get the same treatment as a regular family in a "non-dangerous zone" would get? Isn't that some sort of discrimination against the people who live in such areas? E.g. say I live in a neighborhood where certain troublemakers burn down the trashbin every now and then, does it mean there should no longer be trashbins in the neighborhood, and we should keep the trash in our house and be infected with diseases by them until the garbabe truck comes once a week to collect them? Or what if the same group of troublemakers often damage the street lights, does that mean my neighborhood should no longer be supplied with electricity?

In my opinion these "high risk zones" are simply created when such troublemakers exist and the state won't take the necessary measures (whatever those are) to stop them so they will simply draw some red lines on a map and name a certain area -which will probably consist of peaceful families for the most part- "high-risk zone" and lower the quality of services offered there.
It's really a shame for those people who are privileged to live in certain areas with high quality of services, to look down on the citizens of these "high risk zone areas" and go by the thinking "well you have troublemakers in your area, so you have to suffer the consequences regardless of the status of your very own family". I'd rather hear them say something along the lines "OK now that they have raised this issue and we are aware of the peaceful families who obviously overshadow the bad troublemakers, let's all unite to help those who are less fortunate have the same quality of services by contacting the right the authorities and asking them to pass a new law that won't be discriminating against thousands of people who have done nothing wrong to deserve this".
That's what solidarity means! Wink

There is none that wants to give bad treatment to the people in high-risk zones, also the ambulance wants to give good treatment. But it's not so easy when they risk a destroyed car, then they can't get out of the area and also risk that they get hurt..

I'd rather hear them say something along the lines "OK now that they have raised this issue and we are aware of the peaceful families who obviously overshadow the bad troublemakers, let's all unite to help those who are less fortunate have the same quality of services by contacting righ the authorities and asking them to pass a new law that won't be discriminating against thousands of people who have done nothing wrong to deserve this". Wink

There is none that wants to give bad treatment to the people in high-risk zones, also the ambulance wants to give good treatment. But it's not so easy when they risk a destroyed car, then they can't get out of the area and also risk that they get hurt..

I don't think you quite understood what I was saying. If it wasn't for the troublemakers, I'm sure the ambulance would have gotten there asap, no question about it! Never said the ambulance people don't want to get their work done properly and I hardly think the problem lies in decisions made by them.
The problem is that since there is a "problem", people have to work together to solve it, rather than one side blaming the other. The real problem right now is that peaceful families like Elena's, living in areas marked as "high-risk zones" by the state officials enjoy a less fortunate medical service due to the presence of troublemakers in their area. However it is not Elena's fault that such troublemakers live near them so they should still be able to enjoy equal treatment as the rest of Swedish citizens regardless of what type of people live around them. In other words just because a pedophile or evil terrorist might live near you, it doesn't mean you should be treated as a b-class citizen. Imagine if that was the case for you! Instead of that they should rather do something to arrest these people or suppress their actions because you as a healthy functioning social being would still deserve the same treatment as a regular swedish citizen who doesn't live near evil terrorists, pedophiles or rapists. It's as simple as this. Wink

yes, it is incomprehensible and I can understand now everything that happens back in 2009. It is too much for a person, even more for Helena, who´s always said the love she had about her parent. She is a courage woman

It's tragic that someone calls another person idiot because she lost her father after a delay of the ambulance that case of organising problems. It was a little typical interview to be honest, personally i didn't read something i didn't know for her,but it's logical because is one of her first interviews in Sweden. But from that interview i really wonder about something. From what i understand, she said that she will continue live in Greece. That means maybe she wouldn't stay in Sweden for a long time. But for example,a period of 1 or 2 or 3 months is enough for a big comeback in Sweden?I don't know that of course but this fact put me in thoughts.

Absolutely agree with you Derek... I guess its a wrong wAy to cope with this problem. Of course there is no easy solution for this problem with trouble makers, but this rule of high risk zones is an absolute 'no-go' for me! To be honest it reminds me a bit of policies in Germany before the 2nd world war, if you know what i mean... No maybe they thought if they make high risk zones the 'good' people in the zone would start to 'deliver' more informations to the police who are the trouble makers so they can arrest them easier - they have disadvantages by them to there is more need for them to get rid of these people who destroy everything. I only cannot imagine this will work... But its the only reason why i think they could have created these zones for...!

Don't the ambulance people hurt the hippocratic Oath while waiting for the police? This subject should have actually made it into the media when it happened, or not? Good helena started to talk about it now, many people will listen. And if someone accuses her for that, even more people might be on her side.

It was actually up in the Swedish media, example:

And of course high risk zones should not be the end solution. There is things that should be fixed, but while it get fixed there must be a solution like this.

And before this problem even cam get solved, Swedish people must get curage to talk about immigrants. Only the slightest disagreement about how good immigrants are, then you are a racist.

Thanks for the links!

Yeah, talking about immigrants (about those who cause problems) is also a problem in germany. But for this reason such zones would be impossible here, too.

Totally agree with you and the good thing is that she has probably raised so much awareness on this issue because the comments section under the article turned into a social debate! lol!
Yesterday her interview was most-viewed article in the culture/entertainment section of the newspaper (today is 2nd most read). I think it was probably the most commented and most liked article of all too. Must have gotten around 100 comments and the guy with the good view on Elena's statement got 90+ likes in contrast to the guy with the negative view with 50+. It was interesting to watch those figures for me because I was eager to know how relevant Elena still is among the general population of Sweden and how readers would perceive her opinions on this matter. Looks like she still is relevant! Very Happy
