Post  Mathyos Sat Jun 08, 2013 9:59 pm

So here's my little contribution to the forum about the album... Let's call it a review smile After hearing the album a few times...

First: Ta metria

01. De thelo allon iroa
Although it sounds has that little Winehouse touch it's not a song I would return to very often. Not a strong opening track - but we're not in the age of audiotapes, so it doesn't make much difference.

02. Ena Lepto
Apart from the abrupt finish, this song is nice. A touch of pathos doesn't hurt here. It is a grown-up kind of song, but it still, for me, lacks something. Maybe an epic last chorus that would last longer.

03. De tha koimithes apopse
It's not bad, a little anthemic (which is a plus). I can't really hate it, can't love it either.

04. The Groove is the Solution
The only thing that is preventing the song to be ranked higher are its completely ungrammatical lyrics. The beat is good, though. A party songs for non-english speaking people smile

05. Mi mou eksigeis
The winner takes it all, anyone? A nice song with some ad-libs. Nothing more.

The bad:

06. Epitelous moni
07. Oute ki esi
They both fail at what they are trying to be, although Epitelous moni has a better chorus.

The good:

08. Ti ora tha vgoume
A little Kelly Clarkson doesnt hurt. Especially if this song wil be included in the international album (with different lyrics). It's a great title track with a lot of positivity.

09. Mesimeria
This song is a clear proof that the songs for the international release are on a higher level production-wise. This might be a good indication that they are really aiming at the international market this time. On the other hand the song sounds a bit dated.

10. Vrehei filia
A simple pop song, that catches the listener's attention very quickly. I'm curious about the english lyrics (for all the songs that come after this one, actually... the odds are not good so far)

Top 4:

11. Sou stelno SOS
I didn't like the english version that much from the begining. then it grew on me... then this came out - I love it. I'm a fan of the language. It really makes it better if it's in greek.

12. Poso m'aresei
I would place this even higher - but it was released before the album, and i prased it enough then... It's others' time to shine now. I love the instrumental here. It slowly grows, adding more effect with every new line. And it has a guitar solo. Awesome song.

13. I nihta
Yes. back to old Elena Paparizou. This is what I missed on the last two albums. More like that please. The only bad thing about it is that it doesn't have any simmilar song on the album. Or is that what makes it stand out?

14. Soma kai psihi
This has everything. It passes by Baby It's Over with a 100km/h difference. But again there's this fear of bad english lyrics. No matter for now this is the summer hit for 2013.

Overall: Good. Likeable. Positive smile 8/10

1. Epitelous Moni 10/10
2. I Nichta 10/10
3. Ena Lepto 10/10
4. Den Tha Kimithis Apopse 10/10
5. Soma Kai Psychi 9,5/10 (might be even better in English)
6. Den Thelo Allon Iroa 9/10 (could have a bit more diversity)
7. Oute Ki Esi 9/10 (lyrics sound a bit strange "oute... khhhh si..." - just the sound, not the content)
8. Mesimeria 9/10 (nice, but not a 10; lovely lyrics! congrats to Doxas.)

****
9. min mou eksigis 7/10 - I don't like her interpretation that much, especially in the high level...! Her voice sounds too "pressed" sometimes.
10. the groove is the solution 6,5/10 - cool interpretation, well done - but what are these lyrics? Ouch...! 8,5 for the rest, but big -2 for the lyrics.

11. poso m'aresei 3,5/10 (I miss Helena's usual passion, either in the high or in the deep level. 3,5 as album track, 0 as a single.)
12. sou stelno SOS 3/10 (Doxas lyrics make it better than the English version though)
13. ti ora tha vgoume/chainsaw 1,5/10 (too noisy!!! really like a chainsaw in the background....!)
14. save me 1/10
15. vrexei filia 0/10 (The lyrics simply SOUND terrible to my ears; maybe it's a bit better in English though)

Proper calculation would give it a 6,6/10. But since 8 songs almost all get the highest rating a 7,5 or 8 seems more fair to me. I simply put the bad songs aside lol!

Photo Shoot: 9/10. LOVE it! Best album cover so far.I don't like the full body pics though, but the close ups are fabulous.

After having bought the album in Crete I needed almost another week until I dared to listen to it. I knew only poso m'aresei and save me, so I was quite afraid of the rest lol! But I am positively surprised now. The Greek production part is amazing and a few of the English ones. So that consolates me about the few songs which I kind of detest ;-)

lol, I see that my taste is almost 100% opposite from Reb's affraid

My Rating

Den thelo allon iroa: 7/10
Nice, really nice song, but I don't think it deserves more.

Ti ora tha vgoume: 9/10
Nice summer song, but sounds more like a song for teenagers.

Ena lepto: 9,5/10
The chorus is not perfect, but I love the rest, just amazing!

Sou stelno sos: 10/10
As for me, Greek version is as good as English one is. Both are amazing and deserve 10!

Epitelous moni: 3/10
Only chorus saves it, the rest of this song is too boring.

Poso m'aresei: 7,5/10
Could have been better, but it's still good. Feels like a bit unfinished.

Den tha kimithis apopse: 4/10
So-so.

The groove is the solution: 9/10
Great song. It can be a hit. But still something's wrong with it that doesn't let me give it a 10.

I nixta: 7/10
Interesting and lovely song.

Oute ki esy: 6/10
Nice song.

Vrexei filia: 10/10
My absolute fav!! Love it!

Mesimeria: 7+/10
Good song.

Soma ke psihi: 10-/10
One more fav, but I love it a bit less than Vrehei filia.

Min mou eksigis: 7-/10
Could be better.

Save me (This is an SOS): 10/10

I won't sy that it's her best album, because it DEFINITELY not!

Post  Panagiotis Thu Jun 13, 2013 5:35 am

01. De thelo allon Iroa - 9/10
It's an amazing song. Meaningful lyrics, different and well-worked music and instrumentation, giving an essence of Amy Winehouse to the song. I also like Helena's interpretation on it, I just don't love her high notes on it. I needed them to sound less "metallic".
02. Ti Ora tha Vgoume? (Chainsaw) - 9/10
A pure pop song, without any dance element in it. That fact makes me really happy. It would really suit a musical play/movie, especially with the backing vocals singing those "Ne, htipai, ne ne htipai"! It's really fresh, and Helena's voice freshens it up too!
03. Ena Lepto - 9/10
Great lyrics. Great interpretation. Great instrumentation. Have written my critique on its topic (News Section)
04. Sou Stelno SOS (Save me | This is an SOS) - 6/10
The music is still great, but the lyrics, I don't like ("Mia Anasa vathia, ki Alli mia me-era sti douleia-a"). They don't fit the music well, especially on the verses. I like the line "Giro mou Foties, Sou stelno SOS" though.
05. Epitelous Moni - 9/10
It's a great song as far as music and lyrics are concerned. I also like Helena's interpretation on the verses and choruses, but I can't decide if I like her screaming-like voice on the last chorus. I mean it's not clear to me if it's badly interpreted or gives to the song more drama and desperation. So it may turn to either an 8,5 or 10 when I decide.
06. Poso M' Aresi - 8/10
Finally, in the album, it makes sense! I mean I like it as a song, but it is not so powerful to be a single. In the album and it's style it makes perfect sense! Btw, had you noticed before that Helena on the line "Poso m' aresi pou de s' aresi na me vlepis na gelao" on the background she is laughing! I loved it.
07. De tha Koimithis Apopse - 10/10
I have no comments about this song! Music, Lyrics, Instrumentation, Meaning everything is perfect. I think that Helena's performance in the song must be pointed out. So calm.. desperate. It covers the song's mood & meaning perfectly. Describing the phase right after the break up, when you can't distinguish your feelings. Perfect.
08. The Groove is the Solution - 9/10
I would never imagine that Helena would be able to be so good in a song like that. I like it. Uptempo & Electronic sound, without blending pop in. I like it when a song stays in one or two similar genres, and not messing up with other.
09. H Nihta - 10/10
Another great song in the album so far! The lyrics have an instant impact to the listener with the "raw" words like "souxe", "cliche", "vendetta", "cache".. They also describe true things about night and the lifestyle of night. Could be describing also Helena's experience @ bouzoukia and how did they affect her in difficult times ;) That's how I get it. The music is great two, and Helena's interpretation.
10. Oute ki Esi - 7/10
I am unsure about my feelings for this song. Reminds me a lot of Protereotita album, but then on the chorus it turns to a laiko song which I don't like.
11. Vrehi Filia (Crazy for Love) - 10/10
It is a really happy song! I like it a lot! Helena's playful voice makes it even better!
12. Mesimeria (One Life) - 10/10
As mentioned before, Y. Doxas has done a great job with the lyrics! The music is amazing, and the instrumentation even better! No words about Helena's interpretation! The bridge rules too! An overall amazing song! (To be pointed out: Mesimerja, ta astra na koito. I am going to eat Mesimerjhano next time Razz )
13. Soma Kai Psihi (Set your Heart on Me) - 8/10
It is a nice song, I just can't get Helena's accent on the verses (sinnefia for example). The chorus is AMAZING.
14. Mi mou Exigis - 10/10
Helena sounds so powerless on the verses, like crying out for a saviour. Fits the song perfectly. I also love the fact that on the choruses her metallic voice blends so amazingly well with the electric guitars! Her voice is an instrument in this song! Amazing. Of course no comments about the lyrics and music. Antipas-Moraitis. How could it be anything less than perfect?
15. Save me (This is an SOS) - 9/10
I have mentioned before that I love it! Something that deserves to be mentioned is that Helena gave meaning an achieved to point out the meaning of the lyrics in a pop/dance song.

Cover, Artwork & Photoshoot - 9/10
The cover is great! They picked the right photo. I also like the font. They just needed to use a different one for her name. It's tiring to see it all over the cover. For example if you check the booklet, in the middle of it with the full page photo of Helena and "Ti ora tha Vgoume?" writing it seems amazing. So, Tina (I guess) was right about that!
The Booklet is very good too. Well Designed. They put many good photos in it, unlike the best-of & GATO. Also less mistakes Razz

Production - 10/10
The A-team, did a great job! So bravo Helena and team! It's a great album!

Average: 8,5 (But for me it's a 9)

1. De Thelo Allon Iroa: What a cool opening track! I love the composition by Kontopoulos (I can no longer blame him that he keeps his best songs for other singers)! I could totally see this as the theme song for a James Bond film or as a track on any Amy Winehouse or Duffy record. Very melodious and summery, definitely puts me in a cinematic mood. Nikos Moraitis did a very good job with his straightforward lyrics and Helena's vocals are just as they should be!
Rating: 8/10

2. Ti Ora Tha Vgoume: I would have liked this to be the album's opening track (it's the title track after all)! Such a feel good and damn catchy song. It has a mix of Katy Perry, Avril Lavigne, Kelly Clarkson and Britney Spears vibes and beats but Helena's stunning voice gives it its unique touch. Perhaps not the most original sounding or the most "grown-up" song in the world, but it's absolutely enjoyable, uplifiting and contemporary sounding. Btw I have an impression that the album/track title could totally become a catchphrase/slogan if we (the fans) make an effort to spread the catchphrase everywhere when they release this as promo/radio single (I'm pretty sure they will at some point - maybe early Autumn is good timing).
Rating: 8.5/10

3. Ena Lepto: What an explosion of emotions in this song! I adore the verses (such haunting music reminiscent of a bleak landscape and lyrics perfectly fitting the mood) and that bagpipe playing in the chorus is very effective!
On the other hand I think the song should have been longer than 3 mins (it's not an ESC entry for God's sake) and they should have made use of more classical instruments and less use of that common computerized background beat and the weak guitars (which does make the chorus sound a bit messy) but I can't deny the song had taken me by storm when it was first released.
Rating: 8/10

4. Sou Stelno SOS: I don't know if it can get much better than this! This is near perfection in terms of music, lyrics, production and vocals. Passionate, anthemic, powerful, atmospheric, uplifting, should I go on about this 3 minute apotheosis of dance-pop music? Everything has pretty much been said about the English language version of this track. Apparently the Greek language version is just as great (if not better) thanks to Doxas’s amazing lyrics!
Rating: 9/10

5. Epitelous Moni: I really want to see footage from the recording sessions of this track. Helena's interpretation is just out of this world, the lyrics are very inspiring and the melody is almost as moving and powerful as it gets for a pop ballad! Helena's interpretation and this song in general reminds me of "Meres Eones", but as much as I love "Meres Eones", I think "Epitelous Moni" (which should have been named "De Tha Allaxo Ego" imo instead) is greater. I really hope she will add this song to her summer tour setlist, it will be a pity and a great disappointment for me if she will never sing this live like "Mathe Prota N'Agapas" or "Mi Mou Milas Gi' Adio".
Rating: 8/10

6. Poso M' Aresi: I've listened to this track countless times and I think I've already praised it enough in the thread dedicated to it (some of you have probably gotten sick of my words of support for this song) but I still love it for what it stands for and I still consider it very ballsy and risky of Helena's team to release it as the lead single.
Rating: 8/10

7. De Tha Kimithis Apopse: This is a very enchanting and captivating ballad and so beautifully sung by Helena! I can sense Nikos Antypas's and Nikos Moraitis's "entehno essence" in this song. This song is exactly what I required from this songwriting duo!
Rating: 8.5/10

8. The Groove is the Solution: When I first heard this track I was pretty blown away by it. If "Ti Ora Tha Vgoume" has elements of music resembling the likes of Katy Perry, Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson, this is a lot more "grown up" and “dance-floor”-sounding and resembles the likes of Madonna, JLo, Kylie Minogue and disco music among other more recent electronic pop styles. I love her vocal attitude in this, it's just perfect for the purpose of this song! I was just hoping for a bit less repetition in the chorus.
Rating: 8/10

9. I Nihta: What a nice suprise from Papadopoulos and Petrou (who also wrote "Ena Lepto")! I really like to see Helena make her first steps towards entehno-laiko music (if that's what she wants...) and this song is a very good attempt in this territory (just like track no.7). Very witty lyrics, fun chorus and well suited interpretation! Ideally the music to the verses would have been a bit more engaging and that bridge would have been scrapped (or replaced by a more suitable one) altogether!
Rating: 7/10 (8.5 for the chorus)

10. Oute Ki Esi: This is actually a lot better than a lot of the modern laiko heartbreak songs that receive strong airplay on Greek radio these days, it's even a bit reminiscent to 90s and early 00s modern laiko which is nice because it brings a sweet nostalgic feeling with it and that's the only reason why I am not mad at the producers for allowing Helena to record a song in a rather foreign territory for her.
Rating: 6.5/10

11. Vrehi Filia: I enjoy listening to this at the moment, it's a rather generic and "colorless" track but also quite catchy and uplifting!
Rating: 6.5/10

12. Mesimeria: Very nice and contemporary sounding pop mid-tempo track. Not something we've never heard before but it has a positive attitude and message and the English version could do well internationally because of its great production.
Rating: 8/10

13. Soma Ki Psihi: Yet another well produced, summery and contemporary song with very cheerful vibes! Perhaps the English version of this track should have been the first single from Helena's upcoming english language album considering its summery and radio-friendly sound.
Rating: 8/10

14. Mi Mou Exigis: Heartbreaking ballad with lovely lyrics and a beautiful interpretation by Helena. If only the song wasn't so repetitive and a bit more engaging/captivating in its slower parts + if only Helena wasn't a bit flat in some of her notes my rating would have been higher. I love Helena's belting at some point towards the end of the song though!
Rating: 7/10

15. Save Me (This is an SOS): !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Enough said! (I just regret saying this is not a masterpiece a couple of weeks ago)
Rating: 9/10

Comments: This album is characterized by its diversity. As much as this gives us the opportunity to enjoy anything from contemporary up-tempos to classic ballads in it, it lacks uniformity. Since digital music players and smartphones have now taken over the world I suppose everyone can change the order of the album tracks or make their own playlists out of the 15 album tracks according to their own preferences but looking at the album as a piece of art and not just as a collection of 15 different tracks I wish there was more consistency to it. It’s too early to say whether this is Helena's best solo album to date. In the long term I think I will rank this higher than Giro Apo T’ Oniro, Iparhi Logos and Protereotita but perhaps lower than or equal to The Game of Love and Vrisko To Logo Na Zo. Last but not least well done A-team, songwriters, producers and Helena for this album, it's much better than I expected!

Finally, in the album, it makes sense! I mean I like it as a song, but it is not so powerful to be a single. In the album and it's style it makes perfect sense!

that's true. as an album track it's ok. Just hate it for a single, lol.

so true. I also miss this "roundness" of the album, too mixed from the styles... agree about ena lepto. the instruments etc could be a bit more exceptional.
what do you dislike about epitelous moni, cause of the 8 only?

Keep Paparizouing!

About "Epitelous Moni", I guess it's an 8 and not a 9 for me (10 has to be a song/musical piece that sends shivers down your spine everytime you listen to it I guess which is very rare) because it lacks a more exceptional and elaborate instrumentation that would make it stand out from many similar sounding ballads. Still that doesn't mean I don't love it or that 8 is an average rating. It's a very good rating for me.Very Happy

I would guess for den thelo allon iroa, ena lepto, and then either poso m'aresei/oute kai esi/epitelous moni. These are the only ones I can imagine with English lyrics. Cannot imagine this for i nichta or den kimithis apopse. They are so Greek or even Spanish (i nichta) somehow, a translation is hard to imagine. And mi mou exigis doesn't seem special enough to me.

The groove is the solution: 9/10: Oscilates too much, but it's a good song. Will be one of the best international album songs DOUBLE

Oute ki esy: 6/10: sorry, this one was uninspired. Strikes out
Vrexei filia: 9/10: One of the good covers, underrated song. Double
Mesimeria: 8/10: Quality increases as the song reveals itself Double
